about

‘Architecture’ is a gothic ode to Def Nettle frontman Glen Brady’s hometown of Dublin and his melancholic youth.
Underneath the darkness of the lyrics, there’s a pulsing and stomping rhythm influenced by pre-madchester beats and guitars that seem to almost be the antithesis of the lyrics. However, the strength of that bottom end and the jagged but beautiful guitar sounds lead the way to a more self-assured and positive place that reflects the coming community of adulthood and the rave scene.
Glen Brady says of the single: “‘Architecture’ in a lyrical sense is a look back at a greyer, more isolated time in my life. There’s a sense of waiting and wanting things to happen but not being entirely sure if they will. It’s set in an early ‘90s Dublin just post-adolescence. The heart is heavy
like the autumnal atmosphere of the lyrics. I travel around the dark, pre-Celtic Tiger city on foot, lost with nowhere to go, out in the rain, hiding from the deluge, hugging the buildings. The single is accompanied by an atmospheric video that portrays the Dublin the song describes.

lyrics

‘Architecture’
The less that I can see of your face
The better that it all feels inside me
We won’t be getting together some day
No we won’t be making babies, babies, Baby
When It rains in Dublin
You can hug the buildings
Go where you want
Like when we were children
You can play the victim
Of contradictions
Architecture
Yea and new religion
Tell your friends you’re making movies
Tell your mates and it’s all groovy
You’re not a man and I’m not a lady
And you’re never gonna be my baby, baby, Baby
When It rains in Dublin
You can hug the buildings
Go where you want
Like when we were children
You can play the victim
Of contradictions
Architecture
Yea and new religion
Architecture
Architecture
Architecture oh ho ah ho
Architecture
Turf Wars needs Overlords
Drugs on tick without a cause
Broken rebels give no pause
Tiny laws now eat your jaws
There’s no afters, no befores
We were boring, We were bored
Minor lords and filthy whores
Ich Verstein und Alles klar
Alles klar
Alles klar
When It rains in Dublin
You can hug the buildings
Go where you want
Like when we were children
You can play the victim
Of contradictions
Architecture
Yea and new religion
Architecture
Architecture
Architecture oh ho ah ho
A new religion
